"The Race Is On" (written by Don Rollins / recorded by George Jones) is the second single from David Huckfelt's upcoming record "I Was Born, But..." due out January 16th on Don Giovanni Records. Video by Dominic Hanft / Bromide Productions, footage by Pualani Camo
"When I first heard Adrianne's songs, it felt like a shooting star had streaked across the radio waves and landed in a field someplace very near where my heart had been camping for years. It made sense to me that she had spent time in Minnesota after hearing her cover of Bob Dylan's "I Was Young When I Left Home", but even that didn't prepare me for her poetry, empathy, dragon-in-a-new-warm-mountain imagination and clarity. I had 66 songs in consideration for this new record, but "Anything" was always right at the top. The song is like a gift that we almost don't deserve, except of course that we actually do. A woman and her grandmother came up to me after a show that I ended with this song way up north in Ely, MN. The grandmother had tears, and said "David, that song was one of the gentlest things I've ever heard. It's beautiful." I said "Thank you so much, but that song was written by a young songwriter named Adrianne Lenker." She replied, "Oh I know that. She's my favorite. I just think we need to hear more about men crying in someone's lap in cars..." - David Huckfelt
